Organization: The Committee consists of a Chairperson nominated by the Technical Division Chair and appointed by the Section President, and other appointed committee officers and volunteers. Committee membership also includes an unrestricted number of National Capital Section members who attend meetings and help to further the goals of the committee.

Activities: In coordination with the Technical Division Chair and other NCS committees, and on matters related to the committee purpose, the activities of the committee includes:

1) Advising the Board of Directors
2) Conducting information and education programs for civil engineers and the public
3) Encouraging research and preparation of papers for publication and presentation
4) Improving the social, environmental, and safety  aspects of engineering
5) Establishing and presenting the judgment of the NCS  on air transport engineering related issues of  importance to the metropolitan area.

Committee meetings are usually monthly, but may be scheduled at other intervals as needed.  Task force and subcommittee meetings are held according to their own schedule and to meet deadlines established by the full committee.

In recent years the committee has been engaged in the above activities with bimonthly meetings during which numerous presentations on air transport issues and facilities have been given.  The committee technical programs have included such diverse topics as impact of environmental regulations on airport development and operations as well as presentations on the design and construction of new critical airport facilities in the metropolitan area.
